Moo Duk Kwan was founded in November 9, 1945 by Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee. The art is a composite of traditional and ancient Korean martial arts and Chinese artistry. Moo Duk Kwan was taught to American Military personnel between 1945 and 1955. He then discovered and studied Soo Bahk as a traditional martial art in 1957 and later named it "Soo Bahk Do".
The Soo Bahk Do system was developed by the founder so that practioners can study through the Moo Duk Kwan as a living art. Kwan Jang Nim Hwang Kee's maturity as a martial artist had been conditioned through self training and his various exposures to both formal and informal martial arts training.        The art has come along way and has spread across the world. The past five to ten years has ushered along a greater interest in Moo Duk Kwan's heritage, especially from the newer generations. Currently, Soo Bahk Do is practiced across the world. There are several thousand members and the teachings have been standardized so that a practitioner can experience the same concepts and techniques, regardless of the geographical location. Soo Bahk Do's traditions are passed along to its Students through the Five Moo Do values, Eight Key Concepts and the Ten Articles of Faith during Training:
